In 1443, Donatello was probably called to Padua to execute an Equestrian Statue to commemorate the Paduan general of the Venetian army, Erasmo da Narni, nicknamed “Gattamelata”(meaning “Honeyed Cat” -a reference to his mother, Melania Gattelli).
