Lost-wax casting (also called "investment casting", "precision casting", or cire perdue which has been adopted into English from the French) is the process by which a duplicate metal sculpture (often silver, gold, brass or bronze) is cast from an original sculpture.

The two-story machine shop and iron foundry is 66×140 feet in dimensions, the brass foundry is 100×100 feet, and there is an additional machine shop on Wayne Street, which is 40×90 feet in size. The machinery is propelled by a one hundred horse-power engine, and a force of 225 men is employed.
